All School Field Trip is this Friday!!

We are very excited for our field trip this Friday!  Students must have a signed permission form in order to attend.  Students will eat in their classrooms before boarding the buses at 11:00am.  As we are going to the theatre, this is an opportunity to get some more miles out of those spiffy, dress up  clothes!!

American Heart Association - Jump Rope for Heart

Donations are due to your child's classroom teacher by Friday, Jan. 31st.

Illness Monitoring

It has finally come to Oaklawn!  The "Yuck" is here.  We have had a huge increase of students sick with illnesses associated with vomit and diarrhea.  Please keep your child home if they have either of these symptoms for 48 hours after their last episode.

The District is working closely with the Winnebago County Health Department to monitor and reduce illnesses within our schools. It is the District’s policy to alert families when potential health concerns arise in our schools. At this time, this message is precautionary and is meant to help raise awareness regarding illness in our schools and ask families to take important precautions to limit the spread of germs and illness. As a reminder, when calling your child’s school to report their absence, please relay the symptoms they are having to the school office so that the District can continue to report to the health department accurately.

Attendance

The Department of Public Instruction gives each students 10 absences (not days) per year.  An absence is considered anything beyond 10 minutes.  Examples of an absence (1/2 of full day) include:

  • Leaving early for/arriving from an appt.
  • Illness
  • Vacations/out of town
  • Arriving after 7:55am, leaving prior to 2:35 pm

When a student exceeds 10 absences, on or all of the following will happen:

  • A letter of concern will be sent
  • A truancy meeting will be set up
  • A doctor’s note will be required for future absences
  • Parent/guardian can receive a ticket

For medical appointments (doctor, dentist, ortho, eye, etc.) we recommend getting a doctor’s note and bringing it to school upon your child’s return to school.  Please plan vacations according to the OASD school year calendar whenever possible.

Absences/late arrivals

Please do everything possible to have your child to school on time each day. If your child arrives after 7:45am, please have him/her check in at the office.  If your child will be late for any reason, or will not be attending school that day, please call 424-0170 and leave a detailed message.  Our voicemail is on 24/7.  If your child is ill, please leave specific symptoms, as we track illnesses for the county health department to track and prevent outbreaks.

K-Kids Winter Dance

It’s time to put on those dancing shoes for our annual K-Kids Winter Dance.  Dance the night away on Friday, February 14th from 6-7:30pm.  The dance will also serve as our kick off to our annual Penny Wars. It’s time to check under those couch cushions and coat pockets for spare change!   The grade level with the most donations during the dance will receive a $5.00 bonus towards their final tally.  The penny wars competition will run through the end of February.  The winning class will receive a Dilly Bar party.  All donations received will be given to the Operation Not Alone Fund.

Please check the lost and found by door #9.  We have 6 pairs of boots that are missing their owners.
