Oaklawn Food Drive
Dear Oaklawn Families:
It is the time of year when we think of our Food Drive, a tradition here at Oaklawn and in the Oshkosh community. Our school will be participating again in this program that will benefit the Salvation Army.
Our food drive will be held during the weeks of Wednesday, Nov. 20 – Tuesday, Dec. 3. Your child can bring any contribution to school and place it in a box in each classroom.
This year, the Salvation Army is in need of other goods than just canned goods. We have put together a list of things that are much in need. Each item will have a point value.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place classes with the highest percentage of points will have the opportunity to win Movie Tickets, Funset Blvd. coupons, Spirit Wear, and best of all, pick staff members to do something silly! (Wrap the Teacher, Pie in face, Human Sundae, Duct Taped to wall, Dress them up, etc..)
All students will be given a special treat from Student Council for their participation.

Thanksgiving
Dear Families,
We are thankful!
As we prepare to take a short break from school for Thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude for everyone who makes it possible for as many students as possible to come to school every day, on time, ready to learn. We thank:
- Our students and families for making daily attendance a priority since they know the habit of attendance will help them do well in the classroom and eventually in a job.
- Our wonderful teachers who pour their energy into making each classroom an exciting place for exploration and knowledge so children do not want to miss out on learning
- Our support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need
We appreciate each one of you so much. We look forward to seeing you after the Thanksgiving holiday. We also hope you will keep in mind that school is closed on November 27th and reopens December 2nd.
We especially appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra days off during the Thanksgiving holiday. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and leave your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
Old Man Winter is Here
It’s hard to believe we already have snow on the ground. At Oaklawn, students need to be dressed appropriately to play in the snow. Snow pants and boots are required to play in the snow. Please put your child’s name or initials in his/her coat, snow pants and boots. One pair of black snow pants looks like all the others! With over 400 kids here, that adds up more than 400 coats, 400 snow pants, 800 boots and 800 gloves. Please label everything!!!
School Store
Our School store will be open on Thursdays and Fridays beginning in November. The school store has a variety of fun, small items ranging from .25 to a few dollars. On Thursdays, the school store will be open from 2:45-3pm. On Fridays, the school store will be open from 7:25-7:40am. Once the 7:40am bell rings, students are expected to go to class.
Start of the Day
We have seen an increase in the number of students who are tardy each morning. School starts at 7:40am. Please do everything possible to have your child here on time. With winter here, please allow extra time for cleaning off cars, dealing w/frozen door locks and icy roads. Our breakfast program starts at 7:10am every morning and is FREE to all students regardless of income.
Now Hiring
We are still in need of supervisors, especially at breakfast. In the morning, we can use 1 person\welcoming students into the kitchen and processing their pin numbers at the computer. At lunch, we can use 2 people processing pin numbers and 1 more person outside at recess. Breakfast hours are 7:00-8:00am and lunch hours are 10:30am-12:45pm. If you’d like an application, please stop in at the office.
From our Nurse: Medication Policy
Medication will not be given at school unless it is absolutely necessary. Any medications that requires FOUR DOSES OR MORE a day can be given at school by a designated, trained staff member. Before a child can be given any medication the parent MUST supply a form signed by the doctor. These forms can be obtained from the school office or your doctor. If you have any questions about medication, please contact our school nurse, at 424-0170, ext. 4342.
Cough drops are considered a medication at school. You still need to fill out a medication form but it does NOT need to be signed by a doctor. All cough drops need to be in the original bag and will be kept in nurse's office until the student needs one.
Snack / Recess Milk
Please remeber to pay for your child's milk. Breakfast and lunch are free but students are still charged $ .35 for recess milk.
