Recess Milk Payments
Remember to keep checking your recess milk balance on your Parent Portal! A wonderful donation was given to the Oshkosh Schools from Arby's to cover all negative lunch balances last month. This is a fresh slate for everyone.
If you have a negative balance that means you owe money for recess/lunch milk.
You still have the opportunity to qualify for free/reduced lunch this year. Forms are available in the front lobby of the school.
Field Trip Season!
It is now officially field trip season here at Oaklawn. All grade levels will be going on a field trip. Field trip permission slips are located in your Parent Portal. They are very easy to complete once you learn the process. If you have any questions the office can walk you through the process with you. Financial assistance is available. Please contact your child's teacher for more information.
Coat Policy for Recess
In cold weather students are required to have the proper clothing to be outdoors during recess. Our staff members determine when the weather is too cold to allow a child to go outside without a coat. If the temperature outside is below 50 degrees students will be asked to wear a coat/jacket. If the weather is too cold and the child does not have a coat, the child remains inside for breaks.
Late to school?
If your child is late to school, more than 10 minutes, they are considered absent....NOT tardy. If your child is marked absent you need to contact the school office to make the absence excused. Even if your child is only 15 minutes late to school, 5 Unexcused absences is considered Habitual Truant.
Elementary School Attendance Expectations
- Elementary school day runs from 7:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m.
- Supervision starts on the playground at 7:30 a.m.
- Students line up with their classrooms at 7:40 a.m.
- Students are expected to be in their seats at 7:45 a.m.
- 7:45-7:55 is tardy, anything 7:56 and beyond is unexcused unless a parent contacts the office to excuse the absence.
Recess Milk - Negative Food Service Balance
Reminder to families-We have had some families question why their child's balance is negative. Lunch and Breakfast are free to all students. This means an entire meal, not just a milk. If your family qualifies for the free/reduced meals program then your child can also have a free recess milk. If you do not qualify recess milk is 40¢ a day. When you log into your parent portal the home page shows your child's Food Service Balance. Please make sure you are putting money in this account so your child can have recess milk.
IMPORTANT-This balance will follow your child from school to school so any positive (or negative) balances will move on to middle and high school. If you have questions or concerns please call the office.
Hello Oaklawn Elementary Families,
My name is Jackie and I am your school’s American Heart Association representative. As we’re getting close to the end of school, I wanted to send a THANK YOU message for including the American Heart Association in your school’s 2023-2024 year. Thank you for raising over $6,000 for Kids Heart Challenge to build healthier lives.
Thank you to the entire Oaklawn Elementary community for opening your hearts and supporting the mission of the American Heart Association in our 100th year. You built a safer community by learning hands-only CPR, 4 signs of stroke and heart-healthy habits all while helping others.
Thank you to each and every one of you who played a role in making this program a success!
And last but certainly not least, a truly heart-felt thank you goes out to Mr. Engen for pouring his heart into Kids Heart Challenge. We are blessed and grateful for his leadership!
We appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you for helping the American Heart Association celebrate 100 years.
