Attendance
The Department of Public Instruction gives each students 10 absences (not days) per year. An absence is considered anything beyond 10 minutes. Examples of an absence (1/2 of full day) include:
- Leaving early for/arriving from an appt.
- Illness
- Vacations/out of town
- Arriving after 7:55am, leaving prior to 2:45 pm
When a student exceeds 10 absences, one or all of the following will happen:
- A letter of concern will be sent
- A truancy meeting will be set up
- A doctor’s note will be required for future absences
- Parent/guardian can receive a ticket
For medical appointments (doctor, dentist, ortho, eye, etc.) we recommend getting a doctor’s note and bringing it to school upon your child’s return to school. Please plan vacations according to the OASD school year calendar whenever possible.
Absences/late arrivals
Please do everything possible to have your child to school on time each day. If your child arrives after 7:45am, please have him/her check in at the office. If your child will be late for any reason, or will not be attending school that day, please call 424-0170 and leave a detailed message. Our voicemail is on 24/7. If your child is ill, please leave specific symptoms, as we track illnesses for the county health department to track and prevent outbreaks.
Yearbook Sale (Details)
Your child was given an order form to purchase a yearbook. Yearbooks will be handed out to students on June 2nd. Order forms/payments are due back in the office by Mon. Feb. 10th.
Now Hiring!
We are hiring 1 breakfast program supervisor and 1 lunch/recess supervisor. Our breakfast team is here from 7am-8am and the lunch/recess team is here from 10:30-12:45pm. If you are interested, please stop in at the office to pick up an application.
All School Field Trip
On January 31st our school will be attending a performance by the Mariachi Herencia De Mexico at the PAC in Appleton. We will be leaving school at 11:00am and returning by 2:10pm. This is a spiffy clothes, dress up occasion!
Permission slips were handed out to all students last week and are due back to your child's teacher by Jan. 27th. Please indicate whether or not your child will be bringing a lunch from home or having a school lunch. School lunch will NOT be what is listed on the lunch menu. Since students will be eating in their classrooms and wearing spiffy clothes, we are going to have a picnic bag lunch instead. Included will be:
- Turkey Deli Sandwich
- Fresh Veggie Sticks
- Craisins
- 100% Juice Box
- Whole Grain cheddar Crackers
- Mini Rice Krispie Treat
- Milk
Synopsis: "As student musicians from Chicago, nobody could have anticipated their first album “Nuestra Herencia” (Our Heritage) would receive a Latin GRAMMY nomination. However, they have since attracted local and national news coverage, performance requests and have released their second album “Herencia De La Tierra Mia” (The Heritage of My Land), landing them in the number two spot on the Latin Billboard charts. This performance will help students learn more about Mexican heritage and watch as their peers share their culture from the stage."
Illness Monitoring
The District is working closely with the Winnebago County Health Department to monitor and reduce illnesses within our schools. It is the District’s policy to alert families when potential health concerns arise in our schools. At this time, this message is precautionary and is meant to help raise awareness regarding illness in our schools and ask families to take important precautions to limit the spread of germs and illness. As a reminder, when calling your child’s school to report their absence, please relay the symptoms they are having to the school office so that the District can continue to report to the health department accurately.
