April 30, 2020: Issue 24

Hello Oaklawn Friends and Families,

We will be starting our 7th week of “At Home Learning” on Monday and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all you are doing to support your family and children.  Change in routine and structure can be difficult. Frustration and stress can be amplified when we have less control of the situation.  Know that what you are doing to support your family and children during this time is enough.  Take a moment to reflect on what has been going well and celebrate that with your family.  Use this time together to make memories and talk about what your family enjoys and what new activities you might try.  At the Johanknecht home we have started making homemade pizza on Saturday evenings.  Everyone helps to add their favorite toppings. While enjoying the pizza we talk about what new toppings we could try next week.

If there are struggles at home, choose one or two things that you would like to improve.  It is ok to ask friends and teachers for advice. Talk with your child during a calm time about the concern so they can share their thoughts and help develop solutions.  Then set a goal together and use small steps to make a change.

May 4th kicks off teacher appreciation week. Help us show appreciation for the Oaklawn team by submitting a picture or short video of your child or family with a note of personal message, thank you or inspirational quote.  Submit the picture or video with your phone or computer to this link:

The Oaklawn Staff is wishing you and your family well!

Virtual Art Show - Link

As our Spring art show at the public library had to be cancelled, we can still celebrate this year's hard work with a VIRTUAL ART SHOW!  Congratulations to ALL of our Oaklawn students, whose artistic efforts continue to amaze us all!

School Pictures - Network Photography

Over the last couple of weeks, since the shut-down, we have received a lot of inquiries from parents wanting to know if they could still order portraits from this year (school pictures and sports pictures). Of course the answer is yes.

From the School Nurse

I am the school nurse for Franklin, Read, and Oaklawn Elementary. I realize with
our unplanned temporary closing of school you may have some questions about medications or supplies left in the health office, general questions about school health, 504 plans, immunizations and/or questions about next school year. We are working through many things as each day goes on. However, please feel free to email me any questions you have, and I will do my best to answer them.
Please continue to follow the Safer At Home order set by Governor Evers. For a great explanation of what that order really means please click on this link. Reminder: this means that children should not be hanging out with other children that do not live with them.
Also, to help children better understand what COVID-19 is, I have included a link to a video made by a school nurse from Waupaca. She does a great job of explaining COVID-19 in terms children can understand.
I hope that everyone is doing well and staying healthy! Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
Thank you,
