2025-26 Back to School Notes

Dear Oaklawn Families,

The Oaklawn staff are excited to welcome your child(ren) (back) to Oaklawn for the 2025-26 school year! Here are some important notes to start the school year:

  • Our Open House Tuesday, August 26 from 4:00-6:00pm. We encourage your family to drop off school supplies in your child's assigned locker at this time (name tags will be on the locker in the hall by the door to the classroom).  

 

  • Free/Reduced Lunch Or Snack Milk-Even though we do serve free breakfast and lunch to all students here at Oaklawn, students will still be charged for taking a school milk with their healthy snack from home.  Snack milk is offered to every student, every day unless the parent has spoken to the teacher to request that their child does not.  Our Food Service Department has sent letters to those families who have qualified for Free/Reduced Meals. If you didn’t get a letter and you want your child to receive snack milk for free you need to complete the Free/Reduced Application form.  The application is located in your IC Parent Portal under the “More” tab at the bottom then click on “Meal Benefits”. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Schiefelbein in the office.

  • All families are reminded to register their students in their IC Parent Portal.  We still have families that are not confirmed as attending this year.  Online Registration is required for all families before the start of every school year.  If a grade level fills up before you sign up your child, they may have to attend a different school.

  • Network Photography will take student pictures during the school day on Friday, October 3, 2025.  Link

  • Walking Field Trip Forms!  These forms are available in your IC Parent Portal School Store.  Please complete this form for each child.  By submitting this form, you are giving your child permission to walk with their class off of Oaklawn Elementary property on various days throughout the 2025-2026 school year. (ie:  annual walk around the block Halloween parade, emergency drills to our evacuation sites, etc.

  • The first day of school is Tuesday, September 2nd. Students will line up with their class on the blacktop or sidewalk. Students can be dropped off between 7:30am and 7:40am.  All students should be ready to enter the building at 7:40am.  Note that hugs and well wishes will take place on the blacktop; for the safety of all students no visitors are allowed to enter the building with the class.  Parents and guardians should access the main office through door #1 for any needs or questions at any point throughout the school year.

  • Kindergarten students have a staggered start again this year.  Please double check your email or Parent Portal to see which day your child should attend. Half of the students will attend Tuesday, September 2nd and then stay home on Wednesday.  The second half of students will then have their 1st day of school on Wednesday, September 3rd.  All kindergarten students will attend together Thursday, September 4th.  This district wide practice maximizes the opportunity for our new students to connect with their teacher and learn the routines of the school day.
